The New England Trade Adjustment Assistance Center (NETAAC) was formed to aid New England manufacturing companies that have been negatively impacted by import trade. Qualifying businesses receive financial assistance through a cost-sharing model that helps to fund business-building consulting projects. These projects can include marketing and positioning strategies, e-commerce, lean manufacturing implementation, and ISO compliance and registration initiatives. (For a more detailed list of qualifying assistance, click on the NETAAC Assistance link.)
Funding is provided to NETAAC by the U.S. Economic Development Administration under the Department of Commerce through the national Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA) for Firms program. This program was developed to help companies negatively affected by import competition. In 1998, The Urban Institute conducted an independant study of the program and confirmed its effectiveness in helping U.S. manufacturers offset adverse effects of foreign trade.
